Shelter manager Anita Hooper, far left, artist/board member Mallo Bissett, president Maris Sine, and board member Polly Campenni display the painting of Dominick (painted by Mallo Bissett) which was later raffled off that day.
PALM CITY — June 12 was a busy day of celebration and community awareness at Domino's House, the home of Domino's Cat Rescue League.
Despite sweltering temperatures, a crowd of more than 250 people enjoyed a barbeque lunch, pony rides, bounce houses, dragster / NASCAR viewing, face painting, crafts, music, plant and bake sales, jewelery sales, raffles, shelter tours, and adoptions. One of the young attendees won the raffle and an opportunity to name two of our kittens, Ashton and Tiger Cloud.
In addition, the commemorative painting of Dominick, by artist and board member Mallo Bissett, was included in the raffle events. Several kittens and cats found their forever homes from amongst the attendees.
It was a great celebration, with old friends and new friends being welcomed into the shelter.

Lemonade stand benefits Domino's House

PALM CITY — Katrina Glasser, 11, and her friend Samantha Helton, 10, were spending a recent weekend at Katrina’s grandmother’s home. They decided to open a lemonade stand and sell cups of lemonade to the neighbors for 50 cents a cup. The only disposable cups they could find were three-ounce plastic bathroom cups, so it was decided that they would have to suffice. The girls made a sign that the proceeds of the sales would go to Domino’s House, a non-profit cat/kitten shelter in Palm City and opened up their stand on the driveway.
The neighbors saw what this stand was all about and responded positively to their enterprise by buying cups of lemonade and adding loose change and a dollar bill or two to the collection. Their total take came to $18.80, which was soon taken to the shelter. The girls and the grandmother met with the shelter manager and handed over their donation, which was gratefully accepted on behalf of the cat and kittens.
A few years earlier Katrina’s grandmother had taken her to Domino’s House to visit with the cats. Katrina so thoroughly enjoyed her visit that she asked a number of times to be taken there again. She and her friend made the wish happen. What enterprising young ladies they are. I’m sure their parents are proud of them.
