Whiskers Winter Wonderland Committee

HOBE SOUND — On Saturday, Dec. 5, Domino’s Cat Rescue League will be holding the “Whisker’s Winter Wonderland Fundraiser and Silent Auction”. Enter a Winter Wonderland at the Hobe Sound home of John and Sandie Criddle. “My husband, daughter and I are delighted to host this event for such a worthy cause as Dominos House. We want everyone to be aware of the need to spay and neuter their pets to provide a safe environment for them. If we can help Dominos House in providing funds for them to continue their mission of no more homeless cats /kittens then we will have helped a truly inspiring cause” said Sandie Criddle. The home features decorated trees, trains, an amazing Christmas Village showcasing over 150 lighted buildings complete with lakes, animated skiers, and much more. Domino’s has an exciting evening planned complete with music, food, drinks, raffle and Silent Auction.
Domino’s House is happy to announce their "Fat Cat Sponsor" ($2000) - Elise C. Hillmann MD, PA, Dermatology and Age Management and Diagnostic Imaging Services, Jeffrey S. Hillmann MD. Additionally we have received our first "Cat's Meow Sponsor" ($500) Dr. Arturo Guiloff, MD of the Estetica Institute of the Palm Beaches. “When our cat Tommy needed a companion we visited Dominos' Cat Rescue league in Palm City, where we were in turn, adopted by Jerry, a young all-black Siamese. I and my daughter returned to Domino's every Saturday in July to help. What we realized was that Domino's needs us. Our message is simple; for those who have the resources and means to help anyone or anything beyond oneself, then adopt a worthwhile cause that feeds a passion. As so we have; we have chosen Domino's Cat Rescue League charity because their need is enormous and charity begins at home.” says Dr. Elise Hillmann. Domino’s is actively looking for additional sponsorship support and for anyone wishing to contribute towards underwriting or donating services such as printing, advertising, signage, A/V equipment rental, floral arrangements, food and beverages.
Domino’s has already received several great silent auction items including Disney World passes, Sea World passes, and some beautiful pieces of art. They are actively pursuing additional items for the silent auction. If you have any sources of acquiring some great finds for the auction please let us know.
Tickets to Whiskers Winter Wonderland are $25 per person and available now. To purchase tickets visit either the shelter website: www.dominoshouse.org or www.domininosboutique.org. If you would like to get involved or would like further information please contact Co-Chairman, Sandie Criddle at: (561) 389-8265.

PALM CITY — Domino’s Cat Rescue League, a non-profit, 501( C)(3) no-kill cat rescue and adoption shelter in Palm City is proud to announce the opening of its Boutique and Bargain Shoppe located at 925 SW Martin Downs Blvd in Palm City. The store is just over the Palm City Bridge on the North side of the street. Parking is in the rear of the store. Summer hours of operation are Tuesday thru Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you need directions or more information please call (772) 600-7075.
The store features gently used furniture, collectibles, books, artwork, costume jewelry and many brand new items including leather back-packs for back to school, jewelry, visors - perfect for the avid golfer, new cat toys and beds and many more great finds. Contributor, Dr. Elise Hillmann, Dermatologist of Jupiter says, "Making a difference in the quality of life for a person or a helpless animal is vitally important to us. That's what life is entirely about! That's why we buy functionally useful and unused items on line and donate them to Domino's Boutique and Bargain Shoppe to support the cause that we both share. Buyers should keep in mind that supporting their cause is a donation.”
The store had its pre-grand opening on Saturday, June 12. Already many customers have discovered this great find. Pat Morris of Hobe Sound says, “Domino’s Boutique and Bargain Shoppe is certainly an interesting little store with some very nice things. I came to drop off a couple items to donate and ended up going home with a couple great finds; a beautiful picture frame and iron penguin sculpture. I certainly enjoyed my shopping experience and it was great to be able to see the money go to such a worth while cause.”
Domino’s Cat Rescue League Boutique and Bargain Shoppe welcomes donations of gently used items that we can resell or brand new goods. Unfortunately we can not accept clothing, shoes, bedding or electronics. All profits from the store will be directly donated to Domino’s Cat Rescue League to help provide low cost spay/neuter to cats and kittens of the Treasure Coast.
If you’d like to learn more about how you can get involved with volunteering or donating to Domino’s Cat Rescue League please visit their website at: http://www.dominoshouse.org or call (772) 781-5592 to schedule an appointment to tour their no cage facility. Domino's Cat Rescue League Boutique and Bargain Shoppe opened on June 12, 2010

The "Opening Soon" sign at Domino's Boutique and Bargain Shoppe is no longer there, since the shop in Palm City opened on June 12.

PALM CITY — On June 12 at 10 a.m., Domino’s House opened its Boutique and Bargain Shoppe on 925 SW Martin Downs Blvd. in Palm City. There were even a few people waiting for us. How nice. The shop sells jewelry, housewares, furniture, art, small electronics, pet related merchandise, stained glass items, books, toys, etc., etc. The hours are 10 am to 4 pm Tuesday through Saturday.
The purpose of the shop is to help fund the activities, especially the spay/neuter program, of Domino’s Cat Rescue League, a non-profit 501(c) (3) no-kill cat/kitten shelter located in Palm City. As you all know, this recession has hurt non-profit organizations across the board. We need shoppers and we need donations. Come and visit and before you do, look around your home for possible donations. All donations are tax deductible.
Because we are a no-kill shelter there are many cats that will live out their natural lives at our cageless shelter in peace and dignity. Not every cat that enters this shelter is adoptable, some are too old, too unsociable, not handsome enough, ill, and/or just not lucky enough to catch someone’s interest. But in the 8 years of its existence some 2,400 cats and kittens have had the good fortune to find “forever” homes via this shelter.
The shop is located about a block and a half west of the Palm City Bridge, off Reilly Street, with the entrance and parking at the rear of the store. Frequent users of the bridge will probably remember passing a hot pink house, which is now a more eye pleasing green with a big sign out front; same place but with a new look and purpose. Hope to see you soon.

Adopting a 'Forever Friend' for your feline friend
March 23, 2010

Annelise, holding new kitty, Jerry, and Dr. Elise Hillmann holding Tom.

TEQUESTA — Do you notice your house cat getting fat and bored? Is he or she alone while you are at work all day? It could be the perfect time to adopt a companion for your cat.
Cats do get lonely and as they get older can really get depressed being alone all day. This is exactly what the Hillmann family, Dr. Elise Hillmann, dermatologist, Dr. Jeffrey Hillmann, radiologist at Martin Memorial Hospital, and their daughter, Annelise, a 6th grader at the Benjamin School, realized. After having their cat, Tommy, for several years they realized he might like a friend. Even though the entire family has allergies, they manage these with two allergy prescriptions for cat dander so it does not interfere with their love of cats. As Dr. Elise Hillman, dermatologist, said, “Many patients felt that having allergies is an absolute contraindication for adoption; short of having asthma, it is not.”
When the Hillmann family was ready to make the life time commitment to a new addition to their family they paid a visit to Domino’s Cat Rescue League in Palm City. Many cats auditioned for the role but ultimately it was one year old Harpo that stole their hearts. Being a black cat did not put them off either. As Dr. Hillmann said, “The fact that he is black as midnight just makes him all the more beautiful; his coat is shiny and glistening.” “ When I cuddle Harpo, his motor purring loudly, I thank Maris and everyone at Domino’s House for saving his life, making him a well socialized pet by raising him in a loving and safe environment with his friends, and lastly, by making apparent to us, of her lofty standards of commitment to which we have promised.”
Within days after bringing Harpo into their home Harpo had a new name, Jerry, and a new best friend, Tommy, their 5-year-old cat. Typically cats don’t adjust to one another quite so quickly but this seemed to be a perfect match. By the end of the first week Tommy and his new housemate were playing, eating together and sleeping near one another. The family and their extended family and friends have all fallen in love with Harpo. Domino’s House is thrilled to have been able to place one of their adult cats in such a loving home and hope more families will open up their hearts and homes to another family member. Calling all cat lovers - Domino's House is seeking volunteers.
January 11, 2010

PALM CITY — Domino's House a 501(c) (3) non profit, no-kill cat/kitten shelter located in Palm City is looking for more volunteers. Our mission is to rescue spay/neuter and shelter abandonded, and injured cats and find loving homes for as many as possible.
Help is needed in the following areas:
Socializing cats: Some of the cats or kittens that come to us are shy. They need some extra love and attention to make them more comfortable with people so that they have a better chance of being adopted.
Socializing with cats: Some of our cats just want a little extra attention and loving. With the number of cats to care for, making sure they all get the attention they want can be difficult at times.
Help with feedings.
Help with cleaning.
"Pet of the day" tapings: Driving a cat down to the local CBS news station in West Palm Beach on a Wednesday morning to tape a 30 second segment of their "pet of the day" feature. While this may sound a little unnerving, you'd be surprised how quickly it goes. You don't really have time to be nervous. You just introduce the cat to the interviewer, answer any questions and it's over. You get your 30 seconds of fame when it airs on TV.
Show a few cats at PetSmart in Tradition: We'd like to add one weekday afternoon, probably Friday, to show some of our adoptable cats at PetSmart. (We do this on Saturday afternoons right now). Sometimes you can wind up talking to some pretty interesting people there.
Making a difference in the lives of these wonderful creatures can be very rewarding and satisfying. I'm sure every existing volunteer has their own reasons and satisfactions in volunteering. And while I enjoy the various things I do to help Domino's House, one of my favorite aspects of being avolunteer there is that I get to have my kitten "fixes". I can go to Domino's House and cuddle and play with any or all kittens there without having to adopt them and turning my house into a cat house.
